Instruction is an important component of Kemp Station’s mission. Each
year, the Station hosts undergraduate and graduate courses in activities
which vary from weekend field trips to extended field courses lasting 1-3
weeks. Departments within UW-Madison’s School of Natural Resources and
extramural institutions, like UW-Milwaukee and UW-Stevens Point, use the
Station to supplement campus instruction with field
experience.
Kemp Station also provides valuable research experience for
graduate and undergraduate students. These efforts lead to the completion
of Masters theses and Ph.D. dissertations.
Periodically, Kemp Station hosts small conferences and meetings. These
vary from continuing education programs for resource managers to
state-wide meetings of professional organizations (e.g., The Wildlife
Society, The Nature Conservancy) to miniature research symposia. Although
less frequent, it is nonetheless an important component of the Station’s
educational mission.
